Sophie & Jimi’s Wedding at Addington Palace, Croydon

Sophie and Jimi’s wedding was a nice and local affair, with the ceremony taking place in my hometown of Wallington at the Holy Trinity Church.

I started off with the bridal preparations at Sophie’s parents house, before then meeting Jimi at the church for some quick portraits of him and the groomsmen.

Unbeknown to Jimi, Sophie had planned him a little secret – he was to be driven to the church in a replica 1980’s A-Team van! Being of that generation myself, I was pretty impressed with his transportation as it delivered a healthy dose of nostalgia from my own childhood.

Sadly there was no Hannibal, Mr T, Face or Murdock to join the celebrations on this occasion, but Jimi was flanked with his very own group of men! Despite being a Wallingtonian, I’d strangely not photographed at Holy Trinity before.

I was quite pleased to alas be commissioned for a wedding there, as I’ve always eyed up the unusual blue painted doors at the front side of the church – they’re such a lovely vibrant blue that it just pops, and so I of course made sure that we captured a couple of portraits of the happy couple by these after the ceremony before departing for the wedding reception.

Moving onto the reception, Jimi hadn’t been the only one treated to transportation on the day – the couple had hired an old routemaster bus to transfer their guests from Wallington to Addington Palace in Croydon.

Sophie and Jimi meanwhile travelled in a modern Rolls Royce – I don’t think that Sophie fancied a ride in the A-team van as her wedding vehicle!

If you’re not too familiar with Addington Palace, it’s an 18th-century mansion set within 163 acres of land based in Croydon, and is steeped in history – apparently Henry VIII once had  a hunting lodge there.

As you can imagine, it therefore is a very grand venue, which boasts some fabulous decor, all of which we took advantage of when capturing the bride and groom portraits.

Why not have a look at a handful of images from their big day here below…

Liz and Andy’s Easter Wedding at Selsdon Park Hotel, Croydon

Whilst most of you would have been enjoying your hot cross buns and chocolate eggs on Easter Sunday earlier this year, I was instead off to work to capture the wedding of Liz and Andy at Selsdon Park Hotel in Croydon, Surrey.

I had been looking forward to this wedding ever since I performed my regular pre-wedding visit to Selsdon Park Hotel. During my explorations within the venue grounds I had discovered some amazing derelict workman sheds tucked away out of sight.

I’m sure that upon most people’s inspection of these sheds,  many would have thought that I’d lost the plot in suggesting using them as an intriguing backdrop for some portraits… however, thankfully Liz is a photography teacher, and she could see my creative logic behind the suggestions and had total faith in me and my photography that her and Andy totally embraced everything without any questions or doubt.

It was fantastic, we captured some brilliant and original shots, and I’d be pretty bold to say that I don’t think I’ve seen any other fello photographers who have shot weddings at Selsdon before replicating the use of these same areas/locations that I discovered within the grounds.

You can view a large selection of these images from their day below.

Liz and Andy were extremely happy with their photos, and have written me a lovely testimonial which I shall copy below (and of which can be viewed on my Freeindex account: http://www.freeindex.co.uk/more-reviews.htm?id=234208):

“We got married in April and being a photography teacher I really wanted to make sure we got an excellent photographer. Sam was exactly that. He was very professional from the first meeting and was very accomodating to the style of photos we wanted. Sam went to the location before the wedding and sent through the photos that were taken there which gave us an idea of what the actual shots would look like.

On the day Sam was great. He was very calm and wasn’t too demanding! Sam blended in with the guests, which was great as a lot of the photos being taken went un-noticed.

We have just received the album and are really happy with the results. The images are lovely and its a great memory of the day. I would recommend him to anyone wanting a wedding photographer as he provides a great service.”

Emily & Greg’s Wedding, Oaks Farm, Croydon, Surrey

The wedding of Emily and Greg was my first “Easter Wedding” and took place at Oaks Farm in Croydon.

I knew Oaks Farm reasonably well having shot a couple of previous weddings there before in the past, and it is a very nice venue that offers a reasonable amount of variation for images despite being based within a relatively compact grounds.

I had been looking forward to this particular wedding as Greg had informed me at their pre wedding consultation meeting that they were hiring an Only Fools and Horses Robin Reliant Car as their wedding car as he was an avid fan and as to tie in with their Only Fools and Horses theme for the table decorations.

Normally most couples go with a traditional wedding car like a Rolls Royce or a Mercedes, so this for me was something different to the norm and made for interesting photographs – especially even more so when your groom is game for ‘getting into character’ as did Greg!

The vehicle supplier, Cushty Surprises, provided a sheepskin coat, a flat cap and other various Del Boy related props along with the van – all of which Greg embraced, and for what made some fabulous charismatic images!

I’ve included some of the Trotters themed images below, along with a few of the other images throughout the day.

If anyone wishes to view more images from the day, please feel free – it was a superb day for weather and a fun packed wedding, and we captured some fabulous images.
